The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes will open in Japanese cinemas on September 9, a new update has revealed. A poster visual and 30-second trailer for the movie were also released.
Additionally, the anime’s website announced more staff, including Saori Gouda ( Princess Connect! Re:Dive Season 2) as color designer, Yuuki Hatakeyama (Summer Time Render co-art director) and Daiki Kuribayashi (Toilet-bound Hanako-kun) as art directors, Kou Hoshina (Pompo the Cinephile co-photography director) as photography director, and Harumi Fuuki (The Deer King) as music composer. Director Tomohisa Taguchi (Akudama Drive, Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War Arc) was revealed to also be the scriptwriter and unit director.
Other newly announced staff include Seiji Tachikawa (Idolish Seven Third Beat!), Tomomi Yabuki (“Mado wo Akete” music video), Michio Hasegawa (Shadows House), and Yasuhisa Katou (Pompo the Cinephile) as animation directors.
The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes is an adaptation of a novel written by Mei Hachimoku with illustrations from Kukka. Seven Seas Entertainment describes the book’s plot as:
Tono Kaoru heard a rumor: The laws of space and time mean nothing to the Urashima Tunnel. If you find it, walk through and you’ll find your heart’s desire on the other side…in exchange for years of your own life. On the night Kaoru just so happens to find himself standing in front of a tunnel that looks suspiciously like the one the rumor describes, he finds himself thinking of Karen, the sister he lost in an accident five years ago. To Kaoru’s surprise, he’s been followed by the new transfer student Anzu Hanaki, who promises to help him experiment with the mysterious tunnel–but what does she want from Kaoru in exchange? And what will he have left to give, after the tunnel’s done with him?
Previously announced was Tomomi Yabuki (Pompo: The Cinephile co-sub character designer) as character designer and chief animation director and CLAP as the animation production company. Meanwhile, the main cast includes Ouji Suzuka and Marie Iitoyo as Tono Kaoru and Anzu Hanaki respectively.
The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes novel is published by Shogakukan under the Gagaga Bunko label. It was the recipient of the Gagaga Award and the Special Judges Award during the 13th Shogakukan Light Novel Awards. The novel has also received a manga adaptation titled The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbye: Ultramarine.
