Netflix has revealed a new trailer and visual for the upcoming anime film Drifting Home, as well as the central voice cast for its main characters. The streaming company also announced that the film will debut on September 16, 2022.
Drifting Home’s voice cast primarily consists of Mutsumi Tamura as Kousuke Kumagai, Asami Seto as Natsume Usagiuchi, Ayumu Murase as Noppo, Daiki Yamashita as Yuzuru Tachibana, Yumiko Kobayashi as Taishi Koiwai, Inori Minase as Reina Haba, and Kana Hanazawa as Juri Andou.

The film’s production and release was first announced by Netflix last September at their TUDUM online event. In April 2022, a PV trailer for the film previewed an insert song titled “Natsugare,” performed by musical group ZUTOMAYO.
Drifting Home is directed by Hiroyasu Ishida (Penguin Highway), who is also helping write the screenplay with Hayashi Mori (Cells at Work! Code Black series composer) and Minaka Sakamoto (Babylon scriptwriter). Other production staff includes Akihiro Nagae (A Whisker Away animation director) as character designer, Fumi Katou (Burn the Witch animation director) as character designer assistant, and Umitarou Abe (Penguin Highway music composer) as the music composer. Studio Colorido is in charge of the film’s animation production.

Netflix has previously streamed A Whisker Away from the same animation studio on June 18, 2020. They describe Drifting Home as:
One summer day, Kosuke and his friends visit an apartment building that is set to be demolished, and suddenly find themselves caught in a strange phenomenon. All they can see around them is a vast sea.
