Odd Taxi is getting the stage play treatment, with a play called Odd Taxi Diamond wa Kizutsukanai set to run in July. Instead of tackling the anime’s story, however, the play will be a prequel centered on the formation of the Mystery Kiss idol group.

In line with its idol-centric premise, Odd Taxi Diamond wa Kizutsukanai‘s main cast includes idols and artists like AKB48’s Yui Oguri as Rui Nikaido, Hinatazaka46’s Hiyori Hamagishi as Sakura Wadagaki, ≠ME’s Hitomi Suzuki as Shiho Ichimura, and Nonoka Yamaguchi as Yuki Mitsuya.

The play is directed by Yusei Naruse (High School! Kimengumi 3 stage play) with a script from Kazuya Konomoto (Odd Taxi: In The Woods scriptwriter) and Otona no Cafe’s Date-san. Music artists PUNPEE, VaVa, and OMSB are credited with the music.

Odd Taxi Diamond wa Kizutsukanai will open at Shibuya Cultural Center Owada’s Densho Hall.

The P.I.C.S. and OLM-produced Odd Taxi mystery anime aired in 2021 and was followed by a movie titled Odd Taxi: In The Woods in April 2022. Crunchyroll describes the series as:

This town should look familiar, but suddenly, it’s not. The taxi driver Odokawa lives a very mundane life. He has no family, doesn’t really hang out with others, and he’s an oddball who is narrow-minded and doesn’t talk much. The only people he can call his friends are his doctor, Gouriki and his classmate from high school, Kakibana. All of his patrons seem to be slightly odd themselves. The college student who wants to be noticed online, Kabasawa. A nurse with secrets, Shirakawa. A comedy duo, the Homosapiens… All these mundane conversations somehow lead to a girl who’s gone missing.
