The production of a new Umamusume anime has been announced. While most details are being kept for a later date, it has been revealed that the new show will differ from the existing TV anime and will feature the characters Narita Top Toad, T M Opera O, and Admire Vega.
A teaser visual depicting the aforementioned characters was also released with an announcement trailer.
Umamusume began with Cygames‘ Umamusume: Pretty Derby social simulation game, which launched in Japan for iOS and Android in February 2021 and for PC in March 2021. The existing Umamusume: Pretty Derby TV anime series released its first season in 2018 and its second season in 2021.
Both seasons were directed by Kei Oikawa with Yousuke Kabashima and Tomoko Tsuji as character designers. The first season was produced by P.A. Works with series composition from Cygames’ Akihiro Ishihara and Masafumi Sugiura, while the second season was produced by Studio KAI with P.A. Works credited for production assistance and Cygames credited for series composition. Tomoaki Oota served as assistant director for the first season, while Takumi Narita performed the same role for the second season.
Crunchyroll describes Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 1 as:
This is a tale of a world where “horse girls”; with glorious names and incredible running abilities live alongside humanity. Horse girl Special Week has moved from the country to the city to attend Tracen Academy. There, she and her classmates compete to win the Twinkle Series and earn the title of “The County’s #1 Horse Girl.”
Aside from the TV anime and the new upcoming show, the Umamusume: Pretty Derby game has also inspired the Umayon short anime and various manga.
