Neither Shueisha nor Weekly Shonen Jump have commented on Togashi’s Twitter announcement.
The Hunter x Hunter manga series has been on extended hiatus since November 2018. Togashi previously returned the manga from hiatus in September 2018. The series has undergone several extended hiatus periods, most recently in April 2018 and September 2017.
Hunter x Hunter was first launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on March 16, 1998. It inspired two television anime series, anime films, and several original video anime titles. 36 tankoubon volumes collecting 380 total chapters have been published as of May 24, 2022. Viz Media releases the series in English for North America.
The second television anime series premiered in Japan on October 2, 2011 to September 24, 2014 for 148 episodes. Madhouse was in charge of animation production for the second series adaptation, as It retold the original manga’s story from the beginning. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan.

Hunter x Hunter has previously won Anime Trending’s Decade Awards in the 2011 Grand Run-Off Polls.
Viz describes Togashi’s manga series as:
Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasures, magical beasts and even other people. But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam. Those who do pass gain access to restricted areas, amazing stores of information and the right to call themselves “Hunters.” Can Gon, a country boy, follow his father and join their ranks?
