Several brief clips from the TRIGGER-produced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime were shown in Netflix’s trailer for its upcoming Geeked Week 2022 online event, which runs from June 6 to June 10. More info about the anime, which was announced back in June 2020, will be revealed at the event.

It was previously revealed that the series will consist of 10 episodes. In the announcement video, Saya Elder, the Japan-based producer for the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners a “great gateway for newcomers” and said that “The stage is still Night City, but everything else is totally new.”

The Cyberpunk 2077 website describes the anime as:

CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk began as a tabletop role-playing game developed by Mike Pondsmith, with the first edition of the game being released in 1988. Later editions titled Cyberpunk 2020, Cyberpunk V3.0, and Cyberpunk Red were released in 1990, 2005, and 2020 respectively. In December 2020 The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red released its Cyberpunk 2077 first-person RPG, which was announced in 2012, after several delays.

The staff of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners includes Hiroyuki Imaishi (Promare, Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann) as director, Masahiko Otsuka (Promare, Gurren Lagann) as assistant director, and Yoh Yoshinari (BNA: Brand New Animal and Little Witch Academia director) and Yuuto Kaneko (BNA: Brand New Animal animation director) as character designers.

Other staff include Yoshiki Usa (Working Buddies!, SSSS.DYNAZENON creative producer) as series composer, Usa and Otsuka as scriptwriters, and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill video game series) as music composer.
