An original anime television project titled Shine On! Bakumatsu Boys (also known as Bucchigire) will premiere on July 8, 2022. The production team also shared a new key visual and PV trailer of the series on their Twitter account.
Both the visual and trailer showcase the main characters of Shine On! Bakumatsu Boys. the anime is headlined by Gen Satou as Ichibanboshi, Shunichi Toki as Sakuya, Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Heisuke Toudou, Sumire Uesaka as Akira, Shin-ichirou Miki as Sougen, Yuuto Uemura as Suzuran, Wataru Takagi as Gyatarou, and Fukushi Ochiai as Bou.
The production team consists of Tetsuo Hirakawa (Yu-No: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of This World) as director and series composer and Masafumi Yokota (The Ancient Magus` Bride: Those Awaiting a Star) as character designer. Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King) provides original character designs for the anime and Yasuharu Takanashi (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy) is scoring the music. Geno Studio is handling the main animation production.

The story is set in the era when samurai rule Japan. However, the Shinsengumi police force has been all but wiped out by an unknown foe, save one survivor. Seven criminals have been chosen as substitutes for the Shinsengumi. To ensure law and order in Kyoto, a top-secret replacement operation is set in motion.
