The Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Sustainable War movie is set to release on Netflix on May 9, after originally premiering in Japanese theaters on November 12.

The movie is a compilation of the first season of Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 with new scenes included. Netflix also says that there is “a full re-color grading of all shots.”

The staff includes the series’ directors Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki as the chief directors, while Michihito FujÄ« (A Family live-action movie) is the director. Ilya Kuvshinov is the character designer, and Production I.G and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS are the animation production companies.

The first season of the 3DCG Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 was released on Netflix in 2020. It is a follow-up to the Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex series, which Kamiyama also directed. The second season of the series is set to be released on May 23.

Netflix describes the premise of the first season as:

In 2045, the world has been thrown into a state of systematic “sustainable war,” but the threat of human extinction at the hands of AI hasn’t yet pervaded the public consciousness. Former members of Public Security Section 9, including full-body cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi, are working as hired mercenaries when mysterious beings known as “post humans” begin to emerge. The world’s superpowers are trying to come to grips with the threat, and so Section 9 is reorganized.
