The upcoming Black Summoner anime has released its first full trailer and a key visual, with the former previewing the main characters and some action sequences. The anime is set to premiere in Japan in July.

Black Summoner is based on the light novels by Doufu Mayoi with illustrations from Kurogin . The light novel series began in 2016 and has 16 volumes as of February 2022. It is published under the OVERLAP Bunko label.

The staff of the Black Summoner anime includes Yoshimasa Hiraike (Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for OtakuAmagami SS) as director and series composer, Miwa Oojima (My Next Life As a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X) as character designer, Sachiko Oohashi (Heaven’s Design Team character designer) as sub-character designer, and Kou Inaba (Gekijouban Macross Zetai Live!!!!!! co-mechanical designer) as monster and prop designer.

Other staff include Eri Suzuki (Ensemble Stars!! Road to Show!!) as color designer, Natsumi Uchida (The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt) as photography director, Reina Nakamura (Symphogear XV CG Live Lead Designer) as CGI director, and Michiru (Dance Dance Danseur) and Yuria Miyazono as music composers. Satelight is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Kouki Uchiyama as Kelvin, Manaka Iwami as Efil, Reina Ueda as Melfina, Saku as Clot, Yousuke Akimoto as Jellal, and Minori Suzuki as Sera. 

The Black Summoner light novels inspired a manga adaptation by Gin Amou (also published by OVERLAP) that released its first tankoubon volume in 2018. The story originally began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2014.
