Date A Live IV is the latest anime adaptation of the light novel series written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. The first three seasons aired in 2013, 2014, and 2019 respectively, and there have also been a 2015 Date A Live anime movie and a two-part OVA based on the Date A Bullet spin-off series in 2020. Crunchyroll will stream Date A Live IV outside of Japan and other Asian territories.
Crunchyroll describes the first season of Date A Live as:
Ordinary high school boy Shido discovers a mysterious girl at ground zero of a recent spacequake. Shido learns, through his sister Kotori, that the girl is one of the Spirits: mystical creatures responsible for the spacequakes. Shido is recruited to help “seal” the sprits and end their threat to mankind. There’s just one catch: the only way to seal a spirit—is to make her fall in love with you.
Unlike the first three seasons, Date A Live IV is directed by Date A Bullet‘s Jun Nakagawa instead of Keitarou Motonaga. Other returning staff members from Date A Bullet include Naoto Nakamura as character designer, Shiori Tanaka (Date A Bullet key animator) as sub character designer, Kusanagi’s Nakata Junki as art director, Hitomi Ikeda as color designer, Graphinica’s Keisuke Nozawa as photography director, and Gou Sakabe as music composer. As with Date A Bullet, GEEK TOYS is the animation production company.
Other staff members include Fumihiko Shimo (Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki) as series composer and Mika Akitaka (Strike the Blood series) and Yasuhiro Moriki (Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway co-original mechanical designer) as mechanical designers.
Meanwhile, the returning cast includes Nobunaga Shimazaki as Jido Itsuka, Marina Inoue as Tohka Yatogami, Misuzu Togashi as Origami Tobiichi, Ayana Taketatsu as Kotori Itsuka, Iori Nomizu as Yoshino Himekawa, Asami Sanada as Kurumi Tokisaki, Maaya Uchida as Kaguya Yamai, Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Yuzuru Yamai, Minori Chihara as Miku Izayoi, and Ayumi Mano as Natsumi. The Date A Live light novels, which are published under Kadokawa’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko label, began in 2011 and ended in 2020 with 22 volumes. Aside from the various anime and Date A Bullet, the series has inspired various manga and video games as well. Date A Live IV is part of the series’ 10th anniversary plan.
