Suzume no Tojimari, the next movie from Your Name director Makoto Shinkai, has revealed a November 11 premiere date in Japan. A new key visual depicting the titular protagonist Suzume was also released.
Additionally, a trailer is set to premiere on the Toho Movie YouTube channel on April 10.
Shinkai describes the film as a “road movie,” a “modern adventure story,” and an “action movie.” The story sees Suzume embarking on a journey across the Japanese archipelago to close calamity-bringing doors. Aside from Suzume, the story will also involve a “certain being.”
The staff includes Masayoshi Tanaka (Weathering With You and Your Name co-character designer, Her Blue Sky) as character designer, Kenichi Tsuchiya (Flavors of Youth “Love in Shanghai” character designer, Your Name) as animation director, and Takumi Tanji (Your Name co-art director, Children Who Chase Lost Voices) as art director. Shinkai is the writer and original creator in addition to being the director. CoMix Wave Films is the animation production company.
